Conversation for Resposible Economic Development (CRED) reported on the effects pipelines and oil spills have on property values.

"CRED is seeking to better understand the risks of an oil spill as part of an ongoing dialogue about the economic future of the region. Where are the best places to invest for future growth and prosperity? How can we safeguard our quality of life and support industries that will ensure long-term responsible development which benefits everyone?" Cred looked at eight different spills from 1991-2012 in Maryland, Texas, Michigan, Ohio, the Gulf of Mexico, and in Canada. The loss in property value ranged from 4.6% to 25%.
